It is often said “lightning never strikes the same place twice.” San Diego based interior designer Susan Spath, however, proved an exception to this rule when she was called in to work on a Rancho SantaHabersham custom hutch Fe, CA, residence. Knowing she had overseen a complete renovation of the property a number of years prior, the new owners looked to partner with her to shape the vision they had for their new home, having been impressed with the work and style she had initially imbued the property with.

“The couple knew I had been the designer for the previous owners, so they came into our store to talk about a total renovation. I took them to my own home, which I use as a showroom, to give them a true glimpse of how I envision furniture, Habersham cabinetry, accessories and fabrics working together in a real setting. They loved what they saw and wanted to capture some of the same bright, light looks in their new home.”

Kern & Company Home Project Featuring Habersham Custom CabinetryThe home, a 7,000-plus- square-foot estate in Rancho Santa Fe’s Rancho Valencia Country Club, is “a jewel,” says Susan.

“Times change and the previous design called upon darker woods and heavier furnishings. So I wanted to update the look with lots of mirror, light finishes and an open floorplan that enhanced many of the design elements of the original home,” she explained.

For the living room area, Susan kept the original chestnut parquet floors and magnificent ceiling beams. She chose Habersham custom cabinetry to rejuvenate the fireplace and accompanying bookcases. Using a theme she carried throughout the home, she worked to open up the space with grand, full-length windows, doors and modern lighting.

Working with existing spaces and designs, she created custom templates with the Habersham design team to bring fresh new looks to areas like a built-in buffet. Circular geometric designs on this custom Habersham Custom Bar Cabinetrypiece, as well as a built-in cabinet in the sitting area by the piano, add a subtle contemporary aesthetic. Together with the lighter, hand- styled Habersham finishes and clear mirror, these elements add a lovely, bright and airy look to the space.

“This is very much a ‘couple’s home’,” she explains. “It has lots of nooks, crannies and sitting areas. Rather than many large, separate rooms, it’s really more like one large, open floorplan with spaces that essentially fall off of each other and flow throughout the home.”

Further enhancing the flow, Susan used the same Habersham finish throughout all the spaces in the home, except the master bath area.

“As you go from one area to the next, the finish ties it all together. It’s the same core finish, but I’ve added nuances – hints of gold, shadow, other tones –in each space to give a slightly different look.”

Habersham Custom Cabinetry Designs

For the bar area Susan chose sleek pendant lighting, an elegant antique foot rest and a striking Mother of Pearl back splash – offering a perfect complement to the light finish on the Habersham bar cabinetry.

Her client was hoping that a study could serve as her own personal escape. But she also wanted a place where her grandchildren could join her to watch TV.

Susan worked with the Habersham team to create a home office that complemented the rest of the home – continuing the use of the soft, light finish.

She also carried out the same circular pattern on cabinetry surrounding the large, flatscreen TV. Again, floor to ceiling windows and an open layout exude a lovely, open feel.

The study also includes a two-way fireplace—with the other side facing into the Master suite.

A calming, peaceful space, this section of the home is awash in natural light from wonderful windows accentuated by soft subtle Habersham finishes.
The Study Includes A Two-Way Fireplace

Custom Master Bath Cabinetry By Habersham While building out the study, Susan was also able to open up space for his bathroom, which was originally very small.

Here she called upon a clean, charcoal finish and utilized grates from one of the home’s original skylights.

“The charcoal finish is very sharp and clear – and reflects my client’s tastes perfectly,” says Susan.

“It blends well with the grey tones of the statuary marble floor and cool graphics he loves, which are also featured in the space.”

Kern & Co Custom Bath Featuring Habersham CabinetryFor her bath, Susan continued the soft, subtle finish tones and incorporated a lovely skylight as well to create a soothing, relaxed atmosphere.

“This is just such a great house,” she adds. “Grand old beams, wonderful floors, so many other lovely elements and special touches. I didn’t want to lose any of that – I wanted to re-orientate it, incorporate many of the original elements and finesse it.”

Issues of lightning aside, that is exactly what she did!

Located in Howell, MI, this new 10,000-square-foot residential project was, essentially, a blank slate for Cheryl to bring her design vision to life. The clients contracted her to work with them from conception through final production on everything from architectural details and finishes to complete furnishing and styling.

Cheryl oversaw it all, including two complete kitchens on the main and lower level; a grand entranceway with dual staircases; a formal, Paris-inspired living room, and a transitional master suite. She also designed the home’s formal library and a two-story master bedroom closet – choosing Habersham custom cabinetry and furniture for these spaces.

Kellie Burke Interiors Home Project | Milford, CT

Habersham custom kitchen cabinetry

“I am all about creating unique spaces that are not ‘cookie cutter’ or easily copied. Habersham is the perfect line to help me bring dream designs to life.”

Featured Designer: Kellie Burke, Founder/Principal, Kellie Burke Interiors

Kellie Burke was delighted to receive a call from a new client hoping to use Habersham custom cabinetry for the kitchen and bath spaces of her beachfront home on Long Island Sound.

“We met and I learned more about her and the hopes she had for her beautiful home. She absolutely loves to entertain – hosting parties for family and friends that are renowned for their fun, carnival atmosphere complete with blow-up castles and theme park feel. She’s also an incredible baker known as much for her cookies, cakes and pastries as her festive gatherings,” Kellie explains. “ So she wanted a home that would complement the beautiful beach setting, handle her baking needs and provide the perfect backdrop for her events.”

For the oversized, galley-style kitchen, Kellie started with a large center island in a rich, dark wood finish.
Habersham Custom Kitchen Cabinetry by Kellie Burke Interiors

Lending an antique, Old World look to the space with stately corbels and other detailing, the island offers practical and plentiful storage areas for platters, trays , other cookware and entertaining needs.

She also used Habersham around a beautiful window – framing it with glass curios to house treasured china and crystal from her client’s grandmother. Kellie added a plank wood top over the window and cabinets beneath for additional storage.

Kellie had Habersham’s artisan team paint images of pastries and other desserts on the wall mount range hood as a tribute to her client’s famous baking skills. Additional cabinetry throughout the space provides a lovely complement to a gorgeous, antique tile backsplash design on both walls.

Waterstone fixtures and the exposed front of the Thermador range add a subtle industrial accent that perfectly complements the Old World feel of the space.

For the master bath, Kellie looked to clean, simple design lines and soft, light finishes to perfectly reflect the sand and sea just steps away.

With a hint of French Country styling, a Bombay bump out vanity, tub surround, drawers, cabinets and wall paneling complete the look.

“We bought our first piece of Habersham on our honeymoon in 1997. Its beautiful, French Country look set the stage for our own home interior style moving forward.”

See Part One of Story Here

When we last visited interior designer Linda Andrus, she was moving into the second phase of a comprehensive home renovation project for her clients Monica and Wes Metheny.

At the time, she and the Methenys had completed design work for the living room, conservatory, dining room and master bath of the 6,000-square-foot home the couple shares with their three children in the suburbs of Annapolis, MD (see full story here).

Cyprian Hill Design Home Project Kitchen with Habersham Cabinetry

As Linda explained in our last story, the Methenys were so pleased with how everything had turned out that they engaged her to turn their kitchen into a Habersham kitchen as well.    Since then, the kitchen project, as well as a guest bath,  have  been completed and the results are fabulous!

“Wes and Monica love their neighborhood, friends , home and Habersham,” says Linda. “They bought their first Habersham piece when they got married and have added more pieces over the years, expressing delight about how the line really reflects the Country French/Old World aesthetic they love. As we moved to the kitchen project, the initial focus was on adding a great kitchen island — but that idea started to evolve. They plan to stay in their home and as part of that investment, they were ready to take it to the next level with a full Habersham kitchen.”
Habersham Custom Kitchen Cabinetry For Cyprian Hill Home Project
From a finish standpoint, Monica had always dreamed of a distressed white style indicative of the Country French influences she loved. But Linda felt that a softer taupe tone, together with fabulous lighting, would strike the best balance –adding a warm feel that, Linda says, truly flows with the rest of the home.

“Linda took us to the next level with a more modern French Country look that has truly transformed the feel of our home,” adds Monica. “After buying that very first Habersham piece, I would often visit the company’s website and look at designs in magazines and dream about bringing more pieces and cabinetry into our home. The scale of Habersham pieces is , perhaps, my favorite thing — grand size, the fullness of the legs and intricate detailing. I really love the distressed finishes too. Every time you look at it, you see something new that really reflects the quality and meticulous attention to detail.”

Habersham Custom Range Hood Cabinetry and Island

The island itself is as fabulous as it is functional. In addition to its grand size, it achieves everything the couple hoped for – providing space for gatherings, baking and sharing meals.

Custom Kitchen Cabinetry from Habersham

The island and other cabinetry offer a true study in smart space planning, too. The island includes a beverage center, deep storage drawers, cabinet front storage, and even a concealed Kitchen Aid Mixer with lift. Cabinetry also houses other appliances, including Wolfe dishwashers, refrigerator, and range – not to mention other special amenities like a wine cooler and two separate, concealed trash/recycling areas. A Habersham wall mount range hood with corbels adds an elegant accent while a lovely backsplash, featuring an intricate, interwoven look, perfectly complements Monica’s MacKenzie-Childs™ ceramic dinnerware and accessories.

Habersham Wall Mount Range Hood

What really makes the kitchen , though, says Linda, are the wall panels. “We had already removed the space’s former built-in pantry and existing cabinetry to open up the kitchen area. But as we were going through the initial designs, I just felt something was missing,” she says. “The corbels were fabulous, the finish was perfect, and the overall cabinetry designs were wonderful, but we still needed something that would really tie it all together into a cohesive, comfortable look. And wall panels were the answer.”

Habersham Wall Panels

“So I went back to the Habersham team saying we needed wall panels to help the whole kitchen blend,” says Linda. “The Habersham team was great to work with and helped complete a design that added panels above the sink, door frames, and windows. We also added French doors in the same color and the end result is that the kitchen truly feels like a warm, comfortable cocoon space.”

Habersham Country French Chairs and Harvest Table
The Methenys and Linda also added Habersham’s Country French Chairs and Harvest table to the kitchen design. For an interesting twist, Linda chose to use the lighter, taupe finish found throughout the kitchen on the top of the table with darker tones for the table base and chairs at each end.

Farm Sink With Habersham Custom Cabinetry
“It’s more traditional to use the darker finish on the tabletop, but I felt this treatment lets the eye flow throughout the entire space,” she explains.

In keeping with the Old World feel, Linda chose fixtures, like this stunning Farm Sink , as well as the pasta faucet over the stove, from Waterworks. Like the antique French copper cookware that inspired it, this sink lends a subtle, lovely Country French influence.

While they were working on the kitchen, Linda and the Methenys decided the timing was right to go ahead and update a small guest bath off of the family room on the main level. The space had beautiful wallpaper but the original builder grade sink vanity wasn’t the proper scale or proportion for the space.
Habersham Custom Bath Cabinetry
Linda chose Habersham’s Classical Trumeau and Stafford Commode Vanity – looking to the wallpaper to dictate the final finish colors.

Complementing the look, a crystal chandelier and Kohler products add the perfect finishing touches.

“This project has been a true labor of love – for me, the talented Habersham team and, of course, the Methenys. We’re so pleased with the final result – a home that truly reflects the lifestyle needs , lovely design tastes and welcoming nature of its owners!”

Kellie Burke Chose Habersham For Her Kitchen Cabinetry

“With Habersham custom cabinetry, I can dream up a design and make it happen.”

Featured Designer: Kellie Burke, Kellie Burke Interiors

For award-winning designer Kellie Burke, bringing design dreams to life is an integral part of her philosophy.

”I work to reflect my unique dream, and that of my clients, not a matching, store bought look,” she explains.
Kellie Burke Residence Featuring Habersham Custom Kitchen Cabinetry
When it came to her own home, Habersham custom cabinetry gave her the flexibility and design freedom she needed to bring that dream to life. Twice, in fact…. Just three months after completing her first Habersham kitchen, she and her family returned from a trip to find that a burst pipe had completely flooded the home –resulting in collapsed ceilings and destroying the new kitchen.
Habersham Custom Kitchen Island
Kellie Burke Interiors Custom Kitchen Featuring Habersham Cabinetry

Turning this calamity into an opportunity, Kellie soon embarked on a complete home renovation.

“I decided to make our home more fun, more open, “ she says, pointing to the vaulted ceiling and large, Old World windows.

To help communicate this style, and add an industrial aesthetic as well, she even found huge, vintage beams that she was able to hollow out and apply over the more mundane Microlam support beams for the vaulted ceiling.

“The home is a French Normandy Style so I wanted the kitchen to reflect that Old World, over-the-top style – to really feel as if it were built back then — with a glam, glitter, ‘Newport mansion’ feel.”

For her kitchen island, she wanted to blend old and new elements to help bring the transitional, industrial feel to the space.
Habersham Custom Kitchen Island

To achieve this, she chose a modern chevron pattern to grace each end of the island – which comes together with its grand scale, bold, ornate legs and meticulous decorative accents for a dramatic effect.

As fabulous as it is functional, the island has plentiful and practical storage features and options.

Among them – Legrand electrical outlets, cabinets to hide paper towels and kitchen supplies, drawers, concealed trash compartments, dishwasher and a pop-up Vitamix for her husband to make his breakfast shakes.

Kellie chose a custom-made farm sink for the island center and worked closely with the Habersham design team to see that the cabinetry molding, corbels and decorative elements offered a nice complement.

Habersham Wall Mount Range Hood

A Habersham wall mount range hood with graceful, curving corbels sits over the Viking range – complete with interior spice rack.

Breaking with tradition, Kellie used black and white tones for the decorative, hand-painted pattern along the front and sides of the hood to add to the space’s industrial flair.

Curios, pilasters and drawers on either side of the range house cutting boards, pots , glassware and serving pieces.

The industrial motif is also reflected in Kellie’s treatment of her Viking refrigerator.

Opting not to conceal its stainless steel front, she added an “armoire top” to give it a furniture feel while playing off the industrial look , too.

Habersham Pantry Cabinetry To maintain symmetry with the double ovens on one side of the refrigerator, she chose mirrored doors for the cabinets on the other side.

“The antique mirror complements the stainless refrigerator while showing off the other side of the range hood—creating a great effect,” she adds.

For additional storage, the kitchen has a walk in pantry complete with Miele coffee maker and steam oven.

A backsplash of antique mirror subway tile comes together with the hand-styled finish of the cabinetry to carry through the same Old World, industrial ambiance seen in the rest of the kitchen.

Kellie also chose to wrap the entrance doors and wall corners with Habersham custom cabinetry – a treatment shown here with the arches found in her study leading to the kitchen.
Habersham Custom Cabinetry

“This is where ‘KBI’ happens,” she laughs, explaining that much of her design work and many of her ideas come when she’s working in this space.

“I’m all about creating dream spaces that are not cookie-cutter or easily copied. I want to be able to reflect my unique look and style ,” Kellie says. “Habersham’s finishes are amazing and their attention to detail just can’t be found anywhere else. With Habersham custom cabinetry, I can dream up a design and make it happen.”

Susan Spath’s Residence | Rancho Santa Fe, CA

“Habersham is timeless. Like that perfect black dress or a favorite handbag, you never get tired of it.”

Featured Designer: Susan Spath, Kern and Co.

Leading luxury interior designer Susan Spath has hit upon an interesting business marketing strategy. She builds and designs her own homes to serve a dual purpose – to live in and sell from. That is, she creates fabulous signature interiors for her own family and then shares these design ideas with her clientele.

“Using my own home as a showroom has been a nice strategy for me,” she explains. “Many times we complete projects for clients that we would love to showcase. However, some clients do not want to open their homes for this purpose, which is certainly understandable. By using my own home, I can give clients a true glimpse of how furniture, cabinetry, accessories and fabrics work together in a real setting.”
Habersham Custom Kitchen Cabinetry
One of Susan’s go-to cabinetry lines is Habersham, which she has used throughout her Rancho Santa Fe home, including the kitchen.

“Everyone always ends up in the kitchen, the true heart of this home,” she says. “So I wanted to create a warm, welcoming and open space that would become the home’s major focal point. I worked closely with the Habersham team to fine-tune finishes and designs and everyone comments on the comfortable, warm feel. ”
Habersham Custom Butler's Pantry Cabinetry
To help create the open ambiance, Susan opted not to use many upper cabinets. Habersham Custom Cabinetry

Rather, she chose an island design with tremendous storage space and also created a secondary butler’s pantry area for additional storage.

An avid cook, Susan was intent on developing a beautiful, working kitchen — complete with pizza oven, plentiful work space and top-of-the-line appliances.

Habersham custom cabinetry also plays a central role in Susan’s lovely living room.

“I like to include a fireplace in every home I design, but I truly dislike the whole ‘TV over the fireplace’ thing,’ ” she laughs, explaining how she positioned the fireplace at one end of the wall, with a TV area in the center and then a bookshelf and door to the far right. She had Habersham finish the door, which opens into a study.
Habersham Custom Wall Cabinetry
“This design allows us to use the room in many different ways,” she explains. “If, for example, we have people over, those who want to watch TV can sit there, the fireplace area becomes a perfect place to sit and talk…there are now so many uses for the space.”
Habersham Master Bath Cabinetry
Susan’s stunning master bath also reflects her love of large, open spaces. Designed in an octagon shape, it is as fabulous as it is functional.

Her vanity area features a free floating mirror nestled between Habersham’s custom cabinetry designs. Elegant curios up top provide the perfect complement to a vanity base with elegant crystal door pulls and a soft, muted finish. Susan chose to upgrade the base doors for a rich look.

Habersham cabinetry was also used for his side of the master bath and Susan chose pewter hardware for a more masculine look.

Susan also used Habersham in each of her daughters’ bedrooms

“They each were dying to have window seats,” she says, pointing to custom window seat designs, as well as complete closet/wardrobe designs – both from Habersham.

“I work with a number of high-end cabinetry lines but Habersham is very different than the rest. It really has the look and feel of furniture,” she explains.

“It offers incredibly luxurious, elegant looks that exude a level of casual elegance at the same time,” adds Suan. “Habersham has a natural, homey feel that’s just beautiful. It’s very livable.”

“Habersham pieces bring warmth to a room. You can really feel the difference.”

Featured Designer: Linda Andrus, Founder/Designer, Cyprian Hill Design, LLC

Calling upon her client’s love for the Habersham line, as well as French Country style, designer Linda Andrus has created a lovely, luxurious, and incredibly livable environment for this family of five.

“I feel that the space you live in says a lot about you, impacts how you feel and how you approach each day,” Linda says, talking about her client’s true appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that go into each Habersham piece.

This project began when the client asked Linda to help with the renovation of their 6,000-square-foot home in the suburbs of Annapolis, MD. The two were acquaintances through a mutual friend – both had kids in the same school – and Linda was just gearing her design business up again after taking time off to be with her own young children.
Cyprian Hill Home Living Room With Habersham Belmont Library

“My client had a Habersham piece she and her husband bought when they got married and went on to acquire more over the years. She had also incorporated a very traditional Country French style in her home, using a palette of red, blue, and yellow tones. I wanted to upgrade the Country French influence to a more timeless, rather than trendy look — adding softer hues of blue, cream, and pops of red. My goal was to bring a more Old World European aesthetic to the interior.”

They started with the living room. The client’s husband loved Habersham’s bookcases, so Linda chose the Belmont Library System, shown here. She also commissioned faux paint artist, Darren Salta, Rock Homes, to reflect the textures and tones found on the Habersham pieces on the walls and ceilings throughout the home.

“The echo of the Habersham influence on these surfaces really adds a rich feel to each room,” she adds.

Cyprian Hill Design Home Project With Habersham Occasional Table and Sideboard

For the conservatory, Linda opted to bring a more elegant atmosphere to a space that was previously home to countless toys and oversized, ruffled furnishings. Taking the room style up a notch, she added trim work and incorporated Habersham accent tables and a sideboard in a rich contrast of light airy tones and rich black hand-styled finishes – providing the perfect complements to the soft greenish blue hues of the upholstery and the room’s natural light.

Cyprian Hill Design Project Conservatory With Habersham Occasional Table

For the dining room , Linda chose Habersham’s dramatic Renaissance table design, which makes a statement with its striking wood and metal base and grand top.

Offering soft accents in lovely yellow tones, Habersham’s Pompeii Sideboard, Preston Corner Cabinet and Biltmore Pedestal complete the look .

As they were working on these three rooms, the client also asked if Linda could expand the project to include renovation of the master bath upstairs. Reflecting the trend of the late ‘90s and early 2000s, it was an all-white master with builder-grade cabinetry and tile.
Cyprian Hill Project Featuring Custom Bath Cabinetry By Habersham
The client wanted more space and a way to incorporate Habersham’s bath cabinetry into the area. So Linda started by reducing the standard double door entrance to an arched French door. A toilet closet was reconfigured to enlarge floor space for the shower, and a jetted tub was replaced with a lovely claw footed design.Cyprian Hill Project With Habersham Custom Bath Cabinetry

Cyprian Hill Design Project Featuring Habersham Custom CabinetryBringing Habersham custom bath vanity and mirror designs together with a mixture of crystal lighting, wall sconces and extensive trim, Linda was able to create a luxurious oasis.

“You feel like you’re stepping into the Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons the moment you enter the space,” she adds.

They’re not finished yet. The client is so happy with everything that she has since engaged Linda to turn her kitchen into a Habersham kitchen as well.

At press time, the design work has been completed, appliances and hardware have been selected and a plan is in place to bring the lovely Old World elegance that now permeates the rest of the home to the kitchen. Look for another story showcasing the kitchen on the site soon.

“My client looks at her Habersham pieces as heirlooms …but she’s not planning to give them up any time soon,” laughs Linda. “She wants her children to have the best of everything and these designs will be theirs one day.

“She has such an appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into each piece and has passed this appreciation on to her children, too.”

” I hope that the individual Habersham artisans know how much joy they’ve brought to my clients,” she adds.

What began with a mattress on a metal frame soon evolved into an extensive, award-winning home interior redesign project by Cheryl Nestro of Tutto Interiors.

With the exception of that mattress and frame, the 10,000-square-foot home was completely empty when Cheryl arrived for her first meeting with the client.

“The home is traditional in style and my client showed me a range of inspiration photos that were very glamorous, evoking the look and feel of a different era,” said Cheryl.

After that meeting, Cheryl embarked on an extensive remodel of the home. Among the many things Cheryl did included tearing out walls to open up spaces; adding 9’ and 10’ doorways to the lower level to let the outside in; and converting a former theater room into a basketball court.

“We completely redecorated all three levels of this home,” she says, explaining the complete transformation. “My client is a doctor with a very busy lifestyle so our goal was to create a stylish, yet comfortable home environment that gave him a place to truly unwind.”

As you step into the home, you are immediately transported to that “different era” by a view of an expansive double stairway. Cheryl added extensive millwork to create a sophisticated, stylish ambiance.

Beyond the entrance is the stunning great room, which features Habersham’s American Treasures East Hampton Media Cabinet.

“These days, it is unusual to work out a great room plan that does not feature a TV over a fireplace,” she explains. “Since the space didn’t have a fireplace, it gave us the chance to house the TV in a media cabinet design from Habersham that perfectly reflected my client’s glamorous style sensibilities. “

MPM Interiors Home Project | Chapel Hill, NC

Habersham Master Closet Design Chapel Hill

“Habersham is so versatile. With so many rich, hand-finishes, it’s perfect for any style and lends a casual elegance to any room in any size home.”

Featured Designer: Michelle Murphy, MPM Interiors and DemiRyan.com

“I like to start with one piece and then build around it,” says Michelle Murphy, founder, creative director and lead designer, MPM Interiors and DemiRyan.com

It’s an interior design process that has served her well over the years, especially with her latest project –the renovation of a 2,800-square-foot home in Chapel Hill, NC. The client approached Michelle after purchasing a home down the street from her grandchildren. She told Michelle that she wanted her new home to reflect her own personal style and the way she was feeling about her life right now – light, airy, happy.

“My client loves ‘shabby chic’ looks but she’s definitely not shabby,” laughs Michelle. “Her style is more shabby chic meets Chanel.”
Habersham Chest Foyer Chapel Hill
As the two went through Michelle’s project book to discuss ideas, her client fell in love with a Habersham master closet design and wanted something similar for her home.

“I started with the master closet design, working with the Habersham design team to select light, lovely finishes and motifs that incorporate a French aesthetic,” Michelle explains. “From there, I worked to carry out this look for the entire home – with hints of French elements and clean, airy looks flowing throughout – creating a spacious, peaceful atmosphere that could become my client’s sanctuary.”

Michelle chose Habersham’s La Rochelle Hall Chest in a soft, hand-styled blue finish for the foyer. “The foyer opens to the living room which, in turn, opens to the hearth and dining rooms. I thought this piece offered a great introduction to Habersham –with the same blue tones and French elements that I chose to carry throughout the home and tie it all together,” she explains.

For the living room, Michelle’s client wanted a way to showcase her family photos and memories. “Built-ins would have been too intrusive for this space,” Michelle says. “But Habersham’s Belmont Library offered the perfect solution. It provided flexibility we wouldn’t get from built-ins – allowing the option to change and rearrange if the need occurs down the road.”
Habersham Belmont Library System
The other side of the living room features an antique mantle from Paris and 18th century tile work, so Michelle wanted something with a “wow factor” that also exuded a Parisian influence and antique feel.

“Habersham gave us the look we were after while still maintaining the light, airy elegance we wanted for this space. The line is just so versatile,” Michelle adds.

To Michelle, it’s very important that there is a sense of flow and cohesion as you move from room to room, rather than rooms that exist independently from one another. She kept that in mind when she chose a tin ceiling for the kitchen.

Searching for that “ special something” that would effectively tie the master closet and the kitchen tin ceiling together, Michelle and her client came upon a fireplace mantel display in Habersham’s showroom during a buying trip to the High Point Market. They knew they had their answer.
Habersham Fireplace Mantel with TV
The fireplace mantel offered the perfect complement to Cape Fear Reclaimed Beams on the ceiling. For a personal touch, Michelle added shadow boxes and had her client’s initials hand-painted along the mantel front.
Habersham Jocelyn Dining Table and American Treasures Bahama Sideboard
For the dining room, Michelle chose Habersham’s Jocelyn Dining Table and American Treasures Bahama Sideboard in elegant, silver leaf finishes. French blue tones, found throughout the home, are also found here on dining chairs and in stunning hand-painted wall murals reflecting areas of Chapel Hill, including Franklin Street, shown here.

“Most people think Habersham is a line that only works for grand scale homes. But this particular project showcases Habersham in a different light – showing how well it can work in a smaller space.”

“With the exception of the Hearth room, this home’s ceilings are 9’ and Habersham works perfectly,” Michelle says.

She called the builder, shared information on her award-winning, Pennsylvania-based design firm, The Blind Side, and promptly got the job overseeing and directing the design of the 4300-square-foot sophisticated mountain style home.

“Model home design is challenging since you’re not designing for a single client” explains Laskoski.

“You need to create an environment that appeals to a larger audience, while still making a statement. We wanted to put our best foot forward with our first project for this builder, so we looked to Habersham,” she adds.

With an Interior Architecture and Design Degree from Carnegie Mellon University, Diane calls upon the architectural elements of a home to enhance the interiors and her special touches can be seen throughout.

The home itself is designed for entertaining as evidenced by the kitchen.

As its centerpiece, Diane and her talented team worked with Habersham to create an expansive island finished in Greystone.

Designed so that hosts and guests can easily interact during meal preparation and serving, the spacious island has two dishwashers on either side of the sink.

“Some designers want to put their stamp on interiors regardless of the exterior design direction,” Diane explains.

“We really try to create a harmonious look between the interior and exterior. The Greystone finish used here offers the perfect complement to the Tennessee field stone on the exterior,” Diane says.

Everything about the kitchen’s flow is seamless. A range is right across from the island and integrated refrigeration cabinetry conceals cold storage, also within reach.

A butler’s pantry, complete with prep sink and wine chiller, offers additional space for entertainment needs.

All of the Habersham kitchen cabinetry is finished in Muslin.

“We designed the kitchen with the Habersham team and it was such a wonderfully smooth experience,” Diane says.

“We met the installer and went over all our measurements and changes on site before the cabinetry was built – and the installation was flawless,” she adds.

At a recent open house, the kitchen was far and away the most popular gathering spot of the home. And it wasn’t just potential homeowners who were drawn to the inviting design.

The model home received the award for “Best Kitchen” for New Homes between $1-5 million in the Southern Home and Barden Bridges Awards presented by the Home Builders Association of Greenville. In addition, the kitchen also took the Pinnacle Award from the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Home Builders.

Moving in to the lodge room, Diane also looked to the exterior for design inspiration for her interiors. “The home doesn’t stop at the window,” she said, pointing to the warm , welcoming greys , greens and stones of the exterior.

Storage cabinetry for media equipment and more also flanks the fireplace in the Keeping Room. Here too, the interior calls upon stone and natural finishes, like Habersham’s Huntington style, to reflect the exterior.

Diane also used Habersham for the laundry and mudroom areas of the home. Both rooms created challenges with their angled space limitations.

But Diane and the Habersham team worked around those challenges, creating fabulous, functional designs finished in Seaspray.

Habersham cabinetry , in the Connoisseur finish, was also used in one of the guest baths. “Habersham got everything right,” Diane said, pointing to meticulous detailing, including the flat area the Habersham team added to the paneling around the mirror to allow for light fixtures.

For her game room design, Diane chose Habersham’s Antique Honey finish for the cabinetry, explaining that it brought out the colors in the Quartzite top, tiled back space and the porcelain wood look of the floor tile.
